Searching The Night

Searching the Night Adventure Log
Its adventure not stupid

Do we have to go down there?

After talking with Elise they worked out a contract to find the source of the problem in the sewers and set off. At the cave entrance they noticed that the bars on the grate had been eaten away by what appeared to be a gelatinous cube. They also noticed that there was a path following the shallows of the lake. Our adventurers followed this path to the north through the rest of the day and camped at night. The next morning they were attacked by 5 wolves and a dire wolf which they were able to dispose of without much issue. Afterward they continued following the path left by the cube which lead a trail that lead to the east. Being pretty sure that the trail lead to the destroyed northern outpost our adventurers turned around and headed back to the town for the night. During the night Cedrick abducted the halfling bar maid and took her into the sewers. After setting up an alter, Winston saw a gelatinous cube and Cedrick throw the halfling bar maid into it before running out of the sewers and letting Kato know what they had found. In the morning, everyone met with Elise again to get paid and set up another contract to take care of the problem. An agreement was reached and into the sewers was the next stop for the adventurers. In the sewers they found 3 gelatinous cubes and a small halfling girl which Cedrick “took care of.”

Where did he go?

Date 10/10/12

On the way out of the mine the adventurers ran into a powerful goblin. Before any talking could be done Inixia attacked the goblin and got hurt pretty badly. Kato was the next to go down or so the goblin thought. Before the goblin could do any more damage Cedrick and his quick wit put a bag of holding without a bag of holding and sent the goblin into another plane. On the way back they ran into a possible problem with wolves but the wolves turned out to just be hungry and stopped following once they were left some goblin meat. Once they got back to Forest Lake there was a huge party at the U Inn. During the party Cedrick tried to talk up another halfing which wanted nothing to do with him, Kato talked to a few elf ladies. Inixia had a little fun with Gord, who was hurt earlier in the day, Brytal spent the time studing while Zakei talked to a elf lady named Airl about the ways of his god.

Goblins Everywhere!

Date 10/3/12

The next day our adventurers all meet up and get the supplies they had asked for. The only thing they were not able to get was the barrels of pitch from the Reclamation Guild due to an unfortunate accident. After about 2 hours travel to the north our adventurers found the mine that the goblins were occupying. None of the goblins put up any fight and one gave up some information on where they were from before meeting his end by Winston’s blade.

Return to the Manor

Date 09/26/12

The next day our adventurers met with Egar again. After turning in the box they found out why Egar had chosen them. They were also able to meet the leader of the south, Egar’s son, Egar Velantha Jr. After getting their next mission from Egar Jr. and further instructions from Egar they set off to Forest Lake. Kato and Cedrick ran off to the Guild Hall as the rest of the group traveled around town looking for items. After a while they all met back up at Egar Jr. Magic Shop and were able to get some of the items they needed for their next task. After getting items from Egar Jr., Kato and Zaekai headed back to the manor for the night while everyone else stayed at a inn within Forest Lake near the castle.

Which way will they go

Date 9/19/12

As nightfall hit, our adventurers approached the gates as travelers looking for a place to stay. After talking to a guard on horse they were advised something was going on around town and it would not be a good idea to stay here for the night. Our “travelers” were really tired and wanted a roof over their heads for just one night. After paying 600 gold they were allowed into the town for the night. As they walked behind the guard to the inn there were bodies, assumed dead, scattered everywhere. Once they got to the inn no one was there to greet them so they looked around and found an older dwarf in a corner. He was nervous and huddled in the corner, Cedrick took a look at him but was not able to save the dwarf from death. After clearing out the inn, from dead bodies, the adventures went around town and saw that the barracks was heavily guarded; however, they still needed to get in there for the box that Egar wanted back. They set a trap by the inn to take out some of the patrols, the first group of patrols the plan went off without a hitch, the second group saw the adventurers hiding so Cedrick quickly distracted them by asking if he could check their health. They agreed and the rest of the group took out the guards one by one. Still thinking there was two more groups of patrols they set their trap back up and waited. No patrols showed up anymore, down the street they saw the guard they had been talking to go back toward the barracks. After checking the gates, our adventures made their way to the barracks to find it was not guarded anymore. They slowly entered the barracks but it was completely empty with no one to be found. That is until they went upstairs and heard someone casting a spell. Up the stairs was a stone door that was trapped as Kato found out when trying to open it. Kato quickly disabled the trap and they entered through the door to find a person sitting in the center of the room seemingly waiting for them. After talking with this stranger they found out his name was Lance and he was the one that took the box from Egar but he had a proposal for all of the adventures. They decided not to take the deal he proposed at the time due to gold flow issues on Lances part but accepted that Lance would get with them later. Lance went through a hidden door and vanished. When our adventures exited the barracks they found all the wooden buildings in town were completely engulfed in flames. Kato quickily gathered what he could and the next morning they headed back to Forest Lake Manor. On the way to Forest Lake Manor a dire bear interrupted camp one night and went straight after Zaekai. The bear was distracted by Inixia attacked him. After taking town Inixia the dire bear tried to get away but Inixia was saved somehow, and chased the bear down and killed it. The rest of the trip went by uneventfully and they all made it back to Forest Lake Manor safely.

And so it begins

Date 9/12/12

Our adventures meet up in front of Egar Velanta’s manor, where they find out that there are five people in total that were summoned by the tabs from the signs. After having dinner with Egar and finding a little bit about what he needs them for, Egar gave his new adventurers information about their first assignment. After a little negotiation between Egar and Kato the price was settled, including a bonus for it being done by a specific time. After dinner everyone went to bed with Cedrick and Brytl staying outside for the night. The next morning Egar teleported everyone just outside a northern city in a somewhat odd location about 2 days away from Forest Lake. An ambush was set to get access to the city without being noticed, after successfully getting uniforms the adventurers gained access to the city without any trouble at all. Brytl and Cedrick found a back entrance into the barracks and found their way into a huge water supply underground and poisoned it. After poisoning the water everyone made their way back out of the city to wait for nightfall.

Money can buy anything… Money can buy ANYTHING!

After having cleared out the sewers our adventurers went to visit Lord Elise who also introduced his wife Lady Brenda Pagason. After being paid they visited Egar Velantha Jr at the magic shop before heading to the U Inn and have another party for clearing out the sewers. Thanks mostly to Kato. The next day the adventurers spent the day in town gathering what was needed for the long journey ahead. One more night at the U Inn and a visit to Egar Velanta before having him teleport them to a small town of Andovel Villege which bordered the Halavent Scar. In the town the party met the leader of the town Sir Goodwin. After checking on the clerics in town our party gathered at the wagon.

To Stormridge Cavern

Our adventurers head to the stone gate at the scar and reach it, finding dead bodies and an open door. Lance greets them with arrows and the adventurers turn him down once more on his offer for work, and he informs them that he is heading back south. They reblock this road, fulfilling that request, and head back to andoval to meet up with an elven wizard named velien who says he can teleport them to stormridge cavern, which is near wyrmsbane. The stay with him for the night and are teleported to a mountain, finally making their way to stormridge after about 10 days of travel. They look for joe, but only find a colorfully dressed guard that does not resemble joe. They meet up with a base-jumping elf that can fly, which kato discovers is actually a dragon after brytl goes for a flight with him. They acquire winter weather gear for the remainder of the travel to wyrmsbane. Kato also speaks with this dragon and the foreman of the adamantine mine about getting some adamantine kukris made, and they strike a fair deal which he will deliver to wyrmsbane in a week. They begin to set off for wyrmsbane to setup the trade route for egar.

To Wyrmsbane

The adventurers go along the path to wyrmsbane, encountering some obstacles such an illusory wall and a dragon hiding. After the five day journey they are permitted by storm giants into Wyrmsbane, a town on top of a mountain ran mostly by dragons. They rent out the 9th floor of a large granite inn called the hilltop inn and get more direction from Egar about what to look for in the magic shop. Inixia, Brytl, Cedrick and Kato go to the local brothel and find some excitement for the night while Airl and Zaekai enjoy a quiet evening. They learn from the brothel owner that magic item trade is a sore subject, punishable sometimes by death. The next day, they collect affirmations for the desire to meet with a new potential supplier from three magic shop owners and inform Egar. The following day, Joe meets with the vendors and seals the deal with the Bronze dragon’s shop. They wait in town for the local tailors to deliver enhancements to their robes and spend that night partying a bit more, before being teleported a few days south of forest lake manor. Upon reaching Forest Lake however, they find it has been deserted, until they reach the castle, discovering the old figureheads of the south including egar jr. are dead.

The Surprise Reform

Kato and Cedrick sneak away to loot some houses while the rest gather rumors about the event. After regrouping, they find the bodies and realize that Lance was likely the culprit before speaking with Egar about it. They make their way back to the manor for the night to collect pay and Kato is able to finally purchase his Celestial Armor. The next day at the capital, Egar offers them a job to inform grace grove, while checking security and doing patrols. Kato, Cedrick and Inixia travel to the inn farther north to meet with Garula, who acts as a fence and offers them a theft job. Once more reconvening at the capital, Egar makes the heroes knights of the realm, conferring on them land which some of them pick out. They set off for grace grove and during the night of the first watch they fight off a massive dire bear, subduing it without loss of life. They continue forward to grace grove to complete their mission, wary of what’s in store.

Good times in Gurhana

Our heroes travel for a week before finally reaching a small city they recognize as Gurhana from their maps. They decide to stay the day there, to relax and clean up. Kato and Cedrick case possible establishments to steal from while Zaekai spreads the word of Corellon at the town hall of this small city. Brytl decides to start speaking with natural vermin in the sewers after reading a bit of his new book and is soon ambushed. These halflings manage to force Brytl away after some lengthy combat, but Kato and Cedrick manage to finish them off. Having warned the guard about this possibility, Cedrick raises a fuss with the governor over the matter. In the end, it would appear these halflings are hired men from Grace Grove sent to take out Brytl and Winston. With no other leads to go on, they decide to rest this night at the inn and continue to Grace Grove.

On the Road Again

As our adventures prepare to leave Gurhana they run into a halfling that invites them for breakfast. They find out his name is Xaniril and he is from Grace Grove. Even after what happened the previous night with the other halflings Xaniril asked the party if he can join them in their trip back to Grace Grove. The party agrees to take him to Grace Grove for 500 gold. They eat breakfast than get ready to set out. Other than a run in with a pack of wolves, two of which were dire wolves, the trip went by without much problem. About a day from Grace Grove Xaniril thanks the party and pays them their money before leaving to visit an unnamed friend who lives in the woods by Grace Grove. Once Xaniril takes off into the woods Brytl disguises himself to look like Zaekai and takes off into the woods with Cedrick to follow Xaniril. After a few minutes of following Xaniril, Brytl loses track of where he went and starts to search for him without any success. Xaniril shows himself as Brytl is looking and starts to question why Brytl was following him, thinking it was Zaekai of course. After a few minutes of talking Cedrick decides to stop the questioning by summoning a swam of wasps to attack Xaniril. After getting stung Xaniril takes off and doesn’t stop until Cedrick talks as his normal self and also reveals himself. After talking for a few more minutes in the woods Xaniril leads Brytl and Cedrick back to the camp. Before Xaniril leaves Cedrick reveals his true name is and is given a dagger from Xaniril.

Grace Grove Awaits

The adventures finally make it to Grace Grove and find the guards are very relaxed and do not even questions them as they enter town. After meeting with the town’s lord and setting up a time to meet later, Kato along with Cedrick and Inixia go to visit the leader of the Artifact Reclamation Guild of Grace Grove. Which was not to happy to see Kato without payment which Kato had sent off months ago.

After having dinner (and a show) with the town lord the adventures wait till the morning to start a patrol along the roads to Grace Grove. Bugbears are the only thing to be found at this point.

The Number One Threat to Halavent.... BUGBEARS!

Having retrieved an attack schedule from this lot of bugbears, the group readies the wagon and moves to attack them instead, notifying the actual caravan to stay behind. Cedrick begins creating a new minion while Brytl has a strangely real vision of his past. The group wreck their wagon into this bugbear ambush. After some intense combat, Egar places Cedrick and Brytl into the fight as well, sensing danger. The fight persists for a while, but ends with the bugbears’ defeat. Cedrick manages to charm one and convince it to work as an underling for him. Striking a hard bargain, the bugbear Rock joins the group as they make way back to Grace Grove. They clear Rock’s name within the government and inform Victor about the bugbears’ headquarters. Agreeing on a price that works for both parties, they relax that day and prepare some of the citizens for a large scale assault while collecting some new goodies from Egar.

The Bugbear Camp

The group prepare for the light journey before them and Cedrick gathers his citizen militia, equipped to launch a fire attack. Two days of journey through the forest lands them just outside the camp and they make final preparations for the assault while waiting for nightfall. The militia launches their fire arrows, setting fires off inside the camp and immediately retreat with Airl as the rest of the group moves forward to fight. Devastation erupts from Cedrick’s new fireball wand and they soon tear the front gate down. Smoldering ashes and bugbears surrendering is all that’s left of their forces, except for two slightly more dangerous looking ones. After the group exchange warped formalities with them, it becomes clear that these two are about business and refuse to negotiate peacefully. The battle… is to be continued.
